If I Told You My Story

If I told you my story I could choose to tell you about my job, family, favorite sports, foods, or recreational activities. I could talk about my achievements, hard times, or my dreams, but my story is much bigger than me.

1 Peter 2:9-10
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

1 Peter 3:15
15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

Tell StoriesYour story has power! And it needs to be acknowledged, celebrated, and told. God has been present with you since before you were born. Since the time family, vocation, location, faith, conflict, struggle, pain and joy shaped you into the person of God you are today. God gives us a story to tell because he wants our story to strengthen and bless the people who hear it.

What is unique and special about Christianity?
Christianity is contagious and spreads to others who need faith to see God at work in their own lives.

When we see God’s story as our own, the Bible begins to read and interpret our lives. Hershberger says, “Jesus meant what he said, and he was talking to us.” Jesus’ call for the disciples to ‘follow me’ is God’s call on our lives. When Jesus said in Acts 1 ‘you will be my witnesses,’ he is looking right at us. When he said, ‘come to me all that are weary and I will give you rest,’ he’s thinking about our tiredness and need for care. And when Paul says ‘we are ambassadors for Christ…working together with God,’ he’s thinking about how privileged we are to join God’s mission by telling our story.

Big Daddy Weave has a song that puts it well. The song is called “My Story.”CLICK HERE It expresses the fundamental parts of a life that is poised to tell stories about God. Lets take a closer look at what the song says about the Christian’s story.

Ephesians 5:1
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Challenge:
  1. Lets offer our lives as a fragrant offering that tells stories of God’s faith, hope, and love (1 Corinthians 13:13).
  2. Lets spend the time it takes to recognize and understand our story and God’s unique plan to use it (need help contact Chad Spriggs).
  3. Lets prayerfully attempt to identify people within our circle of influence that will benefit from hearing our story.
