A Better Way

What was is what is. There is nothing new under the sun. From the beginning of time there have been traditions, habits, views, convictions, systems of thought, influences, and communities that have shaped our lives. Is that good? Should we allow these things to shape who we are, or is there a better way? The early church struggled with this question. Time after time God followers found themselves adding, substituting, or simply walking away from the life that He designed. The saddest condemnation is that we still struggle with this today. The book of Hebrews serves as an apologetic for the early church and a warning for the church today. It clearly argues that God has a better way, and for the church to experience His better way it must find its identity in Christ alone.Think about the things that shape your thoughts, opinions, perspectives, and actions. How many of these things are birthed and sustained through our devotion to Jesus? Hebrews argues that when Jesus is not what shapes our identity, one or more of these 5 things has captured our heart.

1. Spirituality
2. Leaders
3. Religion
4. The Law

Today we will look at the supremacy of Jesus and why He is the better way. In the weeks to come we will discuss each of the above, and how the church struggles with finding its identify in Christ alone.

(NASB) HEBREWS 1:1-4
1God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

Here are 3 questions that we can answer that will help us better understand the magnitude of the statement made in the first three verses.

1. What does this mean?
2. What is the impact on the world?
3. What is the impact on your life?

CHRIST IS THE …
1. Heir of all things
2. One who made the World
3. Radiance of God’s Glory
4. Exact Representation of God’s Nature
5. One who upholds all things by God’s Word
6. Purification of sin
7. One who sits at God’s right Hand
